Free Meals for ALL Students

FREE MEALS FOR ALL STUDENTS:

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will extend several flexibilities for school meals throughout the remainder of 2020. “As our nation reopens and people return to work, it remains critical our children continue to receive safe, healthy, and nutritious food,” the USDA said.  All Whiteford students are eligible for free meals whether learning is in the classroom or virtually.

For those students learning in the classroom at Whiteford:  per USDA guidelines, a breakfast meal consists of 3 components (fruit, grain, and milk), a student must take all 3 components in order for the breakfast to be free.

A lunch meal consists of 5 components (protein, grain, fruit, vegetable, and milk), a student must take at least 3 components to constitute a free meal and one of the components must be a fruit or vegetable.

Students are allowed one free breakfast and one free lunch per day; if a student takes a second serving they will be charged for a meal as well as any ala carte items.  The process for obtaining a meal in each building remains relatively the same; the “sale” will still be recorded on the point of sale system, however your student’s account will not be charged.

For those students learning at home, meals will be available for pick-up on Mondays, from 12:45 to 1:30 pm at  the high school café; no delivery is available.  You must first complete this google form to be put on the pickup schedule:  FREE MEALS FOR ALL STUDENTS:

Five days of food will be given at that time.
We remain committed to providing students access to healthy, nutritious, and wholesome meals while assuring the utmost food safety without compromising quality.
For those families that may qualify for free or reduced meals, you are still encouraged to complete the free & reduce application (preferably on-line) as that information qualifies the district for other funding and will be needed later in the year when the USDA program ends.        Five days of food will be given at that time.
