Monroe County Technology Millage Renewal - May 5, 2026

As required by state law, the Boards of Education for nine public school districts, the Monroe County ISD, and two charter schools in Monroe County have requested that the Monroe County Intermediate School District Board of Education conduct an election to seek renewal of the county-wide millage for educational technology supporting K–12 curriculum goals.

This is NOT a new tax; it is a renewal request, so local property taxes will not increase. The proposal renews a .9866 mill levy for five years, equal to .9866 cents per $1,000 of taxable home value. For example, a home with a taxable value of $100,000 would contribute $98.66 per year. The requested amount is slightly less than 1 mill.

The election is Tuesday, May 5, 2026, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Registered voters age 18+ in residing in Monroe County school districts may vote. Absentee ballots begin 40 days before Election Day; early in-person voting may be available by municipality.

Nancy was nominated by Mrs. Angela Madalinski and Ms. Magdalene Waldecker, who shared that Nancy is truly an inspiration to others and embodies what it means to support both staff and students with heart. Hey, Bobcats! Mrs. Kris Schroyer, Bus Driver, was recognized as the Staff Member of the Month for November. Meghann Borgelt from Leski Wittman Insurance Agency attendedLast night’s board meeting and presented Mrs. Schroyer with a $100 gift card in honor of her achievement. Kris was nominated by Elaine Thieman for her long-term service and daily dedication that truly exemplify what it means to put students first. Charlie Butz seconded the nomination, adding that he appreciates all she does for the district. Hey, Bobcats! We are proud to recognize Mrs. Laura Dibert, our Elementary Title I Aide, as Staff Member of the Month for October! Hey, Bobcats! Mrs. Lisa Childers and Mrs. Marcy Anderson attended last night’s board meeting to receive the customary Golden Apple Award for their recent retirement from Whiteford. Mrs. Childers retired after 33 years of service at Whiteford as the MS/HS Art Teacher. Mrs. Anderson retired after 27 years of service at Whiteford where she wore many hats. She was a classroom teacher, an instructional coach, STEM teacher and Director of Data, Curriculum and Assessment. Superintendent Huard congratulated them both on their retirement and thanked them for their dedication, passion, and guidance in having shaped countless lives. We wish them the best in this new chapter!

Hey, Bobcats! A drawing was held for the 2024-2025 Staff Member of the Year whereby all the names of the Staff Member of the Month winners for this past year were placed in a container, and one name was randomly drawn to receive the yearly grand prize of $500. Congratulations to Mrs. Deb Motyka-Iott who was the lucky grand prize winner. Meghann Borgelt from Leski Wittman Insurance Agency presented the generous $500 gift card to Mrs. Motyka-Iott at last night’s board meeting. Mr. Huard recapped Deb’s nomination forms. Mr. Marsh added he is amazed and how much she gets done daily. She never stops. Brings joy to the office and how lucky they are to have her.

Hey, Bobcats! Congratulation to Mrs. Judy Denomy who is retiring after 45 years of service driving bus for Whiteford. Mr. Charlie Butz shared what an honor and pleasure it was working with her these past 11 years and thanked her for her hard work and dedication she has shown over the years. Capital Bond Informational Meeting

On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, all community members are invited to attend a Capital Bond Campaign Informational Meeting to learn more about the bond proposals. The meeting will begin at 7pm in the middle school gym (old high school gym). We encourage members of the community to attend this informational meeting to gather facts about the current enrollment plan to reduce classroom sizes as well as details about scope and costs associated with the bond proposals. March Staff Member of the Month

Congratulations to Mrs. Shelly DeVantier, Elementary Reading Specialist, who was nominated for Staff Member of the Month of March and was presented with a $100 gift card by Meghann Borgelt from Leski Wittman Insurance Agency at last night’s Board of Education meeting. Shelly was nominated by Mrs. Jen Floyd, Mrs. Mariann Hillard, Mrs. Linda Groch, and Mrs. Katie Brunt, who all echoed the same sentiments that Shelly, besides doing her own job, will support in any way as needed. She is truly an amazing staff member, colleague, and friend.

Congratulations to the following Whiteford singers for earning a Division 1 Rating of "EXCELLENT" in Performance and Sight Reading at the MSVMA State Solo & Ensemble Festival on Friday evening at Jackson Northwest Hight School: Women's Ensemble - C. Mohler, Solo; Men's Ensemble - A. Ghamlouch, Solo; C. Diesing & B. Ruddy, Duet. Congratulations to G. Burke, who received a Division 2 rating of "GOOD" for her solo performance and sight reading! Way to represent Whiteford!

Transitional Kindergarten (TK)

Based upon survey data collected from families in December/January and other considerations, we are moving forward with a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) classroom for the 2024-2025 school year. The program is designed for students who will turn 5 between May 1, 2024-December 1, 2024. Students who turn 5 before May 1, 2024 will also be considered based on screening results. The TK program is limited to 15-18 students. Parents who were unable to attend Kindergarten Round-Up with their student will need to contact the Elementary Principal, Ms. Anderson, at anderson@whiteford.k12.mi.us or 734-856-1443 Ext.104 to set up a screening time for their child. We will begin contacting parents of students who meet the criteria for Transitional Kindergarten after May 1 to seek interest in enrolling in the Transitional Kindergarten program. You can access additional information by accessing Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Information. Please contact Ms. Anderson if you have any questions about the program or setting up a screening time.

Portrait of a Graduate

Once completed, the Whiteford Agricultural School District's Portrait of a Graduate will represent our school district's vision for the 21st century skills, character traits, and/or social-emotional competencies that students need to succeed in college, career, and life.

What are the hopes, dreams, and aspirations that our community has for its students?
What are the skills and mindsets our children need for success in this rapidly changing, complex world?
What are the implications for the design of the learning experiences—and equitable access to those experiences—we provide in our school system?

We are seeking stakeholder feedback as we create our Portrait of a Graduate. Please provide your thoughtful input by completing the following survey: Portrait of a Graduate Survey. The survey should take 2-4 minutes to complete.

The survey questions ask you to select ten (10) key competencies/terms that best reflect the skills, characteristics, and traits the Whiteford Agricultural School District should strive for in a high school graduate. The questions also allow you to share two (2) new competencies you feel were not included on the provided list. Once completed, this survey data will be used to help guide our next steps in prioritizing competencies and drafting a visual representation of our Portrait of a Graduate. This survey is completely confidential and answers cannot be tracked back to the participants. Thank you for your help!
